From "Chef at Home", on Food Network, Michael Smith informs us about the following when he makes brownies.

He stirs (with wooden spoon) the brownie batter mixture, instead of whisking it, because whisking it will introduce all kinds of air into it, and you would end up with a cakey brownie, instead of a rich, moise, fudgey brownie.
